Should we wash our meat before we eat ??

People are pretty much torn when it comes to deciding whether or not to wash their meat before cooking. Growing up I can remember my mother washing her chicken, pulling off the fat and discarding any unwanted icky stuff that was on the raw meat! She would also clean the sink area  or cutting board with soapy water afterwards. This later became my practice when preparing food for my own family. Honestly the day I saw someone pull the chicken from the pack to the pan, I was in complete and utter shock!

Now Let's deal with the factual information about the topic at hand. According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) “Washing can spread germs from the chicken to other food or utensils in the kitchen”. The CDC issued a reminder on social media saying “Don’t wash your raw chicken”! The government organization explained that during the washing process the ‘chicken juices’ can spread putting people at risk of food poisoning from campylobacter bacteria. Studies show that the contaminated water droplets can travel more than 50cm in every direction!

Now let's keep it real! Do you wash your meat before you eat? Let me know where you stand on the issue??? Thank you for reading.

Black History month: Celebrating our Pioneers!

                     Phillis Wheatley 1753-1784

Phillis Wheatley was one of the first "African-American" poets and women to have her work published. At the age of 7 she was taken from Africa and brought to America where she was sold into slavery. Phillis Wheatley lived a life more fortunate than other slaves; shortly after her arrival to the U.S. she learned English and spoke so eloquently it astonished others

Phillis Wheatley was allowed by her owners the Wheatley's to study Latin and English Literature, this literary exposure allowed her to develop into a great writer!

"Phillis's place was designated by her white world, and she was virtually cut off from her own people, but she was definitely still a slave, although a privileged one. Though superior to most in her intellectual and literary accomplishments, she was clearly never their social equal."-vcu

"On Being Brought from Africa to America" by Phillis Wheatley
Twas mercy brought me from my Pagan land,
Taught my benighted soul to understand
That there's a God, that there's a Saviour too:
Once I redemption neither sought nor knew.
Some view our sable race with scornful eye,
"Their colour is a diabolic dye."
Remember, Christians, Negroes, black as Cain,
May be refin'd, and join th' angelic train.

This is one of the many controversial pieces written by the once enslaved poet, who seemed to praise slavery because it led her to Christianity. Despite the critical debate about the writer's loyalty and literary content... Phillis Wheatley was an astonishing African writer who paved the way for other minority writers.

NYPD's STop and Frisk STats

The recently released NYPD "Stop and Frisk" policy stats are completely alarming! It is reported that 9 out of 10 people that were "stopped and Frisked"in 2011 were African American or Hispanic! In 2011 there were close to 700,000 stops reported by police that year.

"The data comes from a report released by the NYPD Monday, which showed that of the 685,724 stops made by police that year, 53% of those questioned were black, 34% were Latino, 9% were white and 3% were Asian... The citywide population in 2011 was 23.4% black, 29.4% Hispanic, 12.9% Asian, and 34.3% non-Hispanic white, according to the report."- CNN

These numbers are unbelievable!! These numbers also bring the major problem of racial profiling to the fore front!! Racial profiling is illegal and unjust tactic that should not be used when stopping an individual that looks "suspicious".

The Stop and Frisk policy is a strategy originally created  to decrease crime in many of our communities. The top reasons for stop and frisk encounters are to check for weapon possession.
According to Police Commissioner Kelly all stop and frisk encounters are reported by police and they are meant to "increase public confidence". Whose confidence??

"The city’s reliance on stop and frisk has come under intense scrutiny and legal challenges. Critics say that the police unfairly target black and Hispanic young men, who have made up 85 percent of those stopped."- The New York Times

I am writing this story in response to my son's homework assignment tonight. The assignment talked about the NYPD's Stop and frisk policy and how the very same policy might affect him. This homework assignment really stimulated plenty of thoughts in my mind and really messed with my emotions.  I am strongly against any policy that would discourage or diminish the confidence, pride or dignity of an individual by violating his or her personal space and constitutional rights!! This policy profiles people based on race and sends a negative message to the community! It also encourages racism by stereotyping a particular group and labeling them as "suspicious"!! What do suspicious people look like??? What do criminals look like??

I do not want my son followed around a store or targeted on the streets because he fits the description of a "suspicious" individual! I dedicate this blog to my son who is a Black and Hispanic male growing up in the heart of New York City. *I Love you Jay!*

One Time for your Mind!! - I am not bashing all police officers! I understand that their job is not easy. But we need to regulate this policies today!! Please check out this very thought provoking cartoon and tell me what you think. Remember stand for something or fall for anything!!

Super Bowl 2013: The Ravens Beat 49ers 34-31!!

The Baltimore Ravens take the win 34-31 for Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers!! The Super Bowl is undoubtedly the most popular sporting event throughout the nation. I, amongst millions of others, stationed myself on a sofa and stuffed my face with chips, dip and drink!

The Ravens literally struggled to see the light of  victory against the 49ers, through the huge power outage that shut the lights off during the third quarter.

The half time performance had all eyes glued to their sets as we watched Beyonce along with a Destiny's Child sing our favorite songs!! The girls looked fantastic. I think this was my favorite part of the game considering I am so not into sports. Okay, Super bowl Sunday had its glory now its diet Monday!

Hurricane Sandy Rocks The Northeast!!

Hurricane Sandy forced New York residents to stay inside and get cozy as she rocked the East Coast! Death tolls have climbed up to 35 as the US begins a massive post-Sandy clean up effort. Approximately 8.2 million East Coasters were left without power after feeling the wrath of Sweet Ol' Sandy. New York State was amongst the hardest hit areas. This storm has single handedly shut down the Financial district, Schools, Highways, Airports and all Public Transportation! Talking about a Major Stand Still!!

"This was a devastating storm, maybe the worst that we have ever experienced," New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. Although its not yet confirmed, this storm's effects might be one for the record books.

Finding the Perfect Him

Has anybody seen Mr. Right?? They say Mr.Right is waiting for you and if you are waiting for him...How the heck will you find each other??!!

Finding a decent man these days can be a bit of a headache. He's not at the bar, club or church...(I know, I've looked) He's not at work or under a rock...So where, oh where is the perfect him??!!

Ladies and Gentlemen... I've been doing some true soul searching and I've figured out that I'm no longer going to look for the "perfect" him. Truth be told...No one is perfect!!  I'm going to work on creating a better me! Yes yes...I'm working on the woman in the mirror!

Compare yourself to a building... It may seem silly but try hard please. The outside appearance of your building needs to be attractive and inviting or no one will want to visit. Think about your personality as the apartments inside... are they renovated and up to date??!! or is plaster falling from the ceilings??!! Who can turn down a woman who is intelligent and witty?? Now, think of your dates as prospective occupants... Luxury housing will only attract established and stable tenants; who will be  able to afford, maintain and appreciate their surroundings!

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying sell yourself! Not at all!! But have you ever asked yourself..Why do I keep attracting the same losers again and again??? Or have you ever wondered whats the real problem??

Renovate Pronto!!

Work on creating a better you, so that you can meet a better him! Physical appearance does matter. Hit the gym ladies! We have to get our work out on! Let's work out to get toned up and healthy, not to take pics in thongs on facebook! Working out builds up your self esteem and makes you feel refreshed. When I am a little stressed I go hard at the gym and soon forget about my troubles. I am also thrilled about the difference that I see in my body. Physical fitness promotes self discipline and will upgrade your sexy.

Embrace your inner talents!!

I love to meet people who make themselves happy by pursuing their God given talents. When you do what you love you will smile more and gain a positive out look on life. You want to achieve happiness within yourself first!! This is so important!! So no matter who comes or who goes, you are happy being you! A man can not make you happy! He should only be there to compliment the happiness you possess inside!

I am far from a relationship Guru, but I'm living and learning from my own mistakes. Remember Ladies in order to raise the bar on the men we attract, we first have to work on what we have to offer as eligible single women.

Loving me First! xoxoxo Ms. Chyna BlaQ!

Why do we use the B Word for women?

I have been picking my brain for an interesting blog topic to write about and came up with this one... so please pardon the use of profanity as I begin to write about the B word. Why do we refer to women as bitches? I often hear women call themselves a Bitch and I hear men do it even more. I even searched the word BITCH under Google images and hundreds of pictures of women surfaced with one or two dogs in between.

The word bitch is litterally a female dog. Bitch is often used to describe a cranky or aggressive woman. It is also used to describe men who act like women. The B word is in no way meant to compliment or praise women...So why do we use it so much?? I guess a better question is...Whose is answering to the name??

Dialogue
Guy: Hey Bitch. How are you doing?
Girl: I'm fine. How are you?

I'm confused and really trying to understand it's appropriateness. Can it be used as a term of endearment?  I guess for females that call each other Bitches maybe they mean it in a positive way. You beautiful, intelligent, talented, creative, honest, bitch you!

When I use the word bitch its often referring to a female that I really don't like. I mean its not in my everyday language but it has come out of my mouth a few times. Somehow I think that we have definitely perfected the art of calling women out their name. I will tell you this much, just call me Ms. Chyna Blaq.

Do you call yourself a Bitch? Or do you answer to the name??
Inquiring want to know...

Adidas Pulls New "Shackle" Shoe design

Adidas releases a highly offensive sneaker design called the "Shackle" shoe. This latest shoe design was created by Beverly Hills designer Jeremy Scott and it features plastic shackles that should be placed on the ankles. The new design has quickly stirred up lots of controversy! People are calling them Adidas new "Slave Kicks"!

Adidas released a statement reading... "The design of the JS Roundhouse Mid is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott's outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery. Since the shoe debuted on our Facebook page ahead of its market release in August, Adidas has received both favorable and critical feedback. We apologize if people are offended by the design and we are withdrawing our plans to make them available in the marketplace."

I highly suggest Adidas go back to the drawing board with their sneaker designs. Their new "slave" sneaker is a huge fail in more ways than one! Shame on you Adidas and designer Jeremy Scott!!

Mayor's future Soda Ban is way outta Hand!!

Mayor Michael Bloomberg wants to ban the sell of large sugary drinks in more than a few New York City establishments. The ban prohibits the sell of soda, coffee, teas and fruit drinks that are larger than 16 ounces. It's all in his plan to help the city fight the wide spread obesity epidemic.

This new proposed ban is more than a little intrusive! People have the right to purchase whatever sugary drink they darn well please! Next the mayor will control how many times people are allowed to eat take-out! Where do we draw the line here??!! Ultimately... It's the people choice!!

There are just as many gyms and recreational centers, as there fast food restaurants!!

Sugary drinks or calorie packed treats should be eaten in moderation. Bloomberg! Why not place a ban on cigarettes or 40 ounce malt liquor?? What do you think about this proposed soda ban??

How to cure a case of the co-worker Blues.

Are you suffering from a case of the co-worker blues? Stress or tension with a fellow colleague can complicate any work day. Aggressive "know it alls" and Office Bugs can make an 8 hour day seem like eternity. Here are some helpful tips that will effectively reduce your workplace blues!

 #1Meet and Greet
When arriving to work, try to be friendly and be engaging. Polite "Good mornings" and "Hellos", help to generate positive energy that you will need to fuel the rest of your day.

 #2When in doubt...SMILE
A winning smile covers up all signs of tension and stress, even if its fake! Smile!

*Remember you don't want to let office bugs know they are actually getting under your skin.

#3 Mums the word
Arguments or open hostility at work only make the situation worse! If the tension has peaked, don't speak! *Avoid the conflict* *Think* You need your job and no one is worth you putting in jeopardy.

#4 Kill them with Kindness
If its not too hard for you... hold the door open for others, refill the coffee pot or even set out an office treat! *These actions are not considered "brown nosing" or sucking up. Its just killing them with kindness.

If you get angry, they win. Show "Office Meanies" that you are not effected by their negativity! Try to follow a few of these suggestions and watch your days run smoother. Remember that you are bigger than the situation at hand and each day is going to be pleasant!

The Trayvon Martin Murder and the Community's Cry for Justice

The Trayvon Martin murder case has sparked nation wide media coverage. People across America are gathering by the thousands and donning hoodies in protest against the unjust killing of the Black teen.

On February.26, 2012, an unarmed teenager named Trayvon Martin was shot dead by a self proclaimed neighborhood watch leader named George Zimmerman. George Zimmerman followed and confronted the teen despite the police department operator clearly directing him not to do so. Zimmerman admits to shooting the teen and remains a free man today!

An online petition has circulated for the arrest of Trayvon's Killer. Over 2.2 million people have signed the online petition, making it the largest petition to be given by change.org.

This case has stirred up so many questions about race relations in America. Many people think that the teen's appearance might have contributed to his death. So can we say that a minority in a hoodie and jeans is automatically perceived to be a thug or a hoodlum? Meanwhile a Caucasian wearing the same might be a jogger or college student; in any sense they wouldn't be viewed as threatening. This mode of thinking  contributes to the huge problem of racism in America.

An individual's perception can be the difference between life and death to minority teens. Don't think so...ask Trayvon Martin.

Fox News Commentator Geraldo Rivera excited many with his inflammatory statements about the case. “If you dress like a hoodlum eventually some schmuck is going to take you at your word" says Rivera. “It hurts to be assailed – but anger doesn’t change reality – a minority kid in a hoodie in a hood not his own is a 911 call waiting to happen,” wrote Geraldo Rivera.

Honestly If I were walking down the street and someone in a hoodie were behind me I would be a bit cautious. I would probably turn around to get a glimpse of the person's face to see if I'm in any real  danger. But I think I would do the same with any male walking behind me, white, black or blue!

This case just sickens me...I am disgusted by it! It is amazing to me that despite all the evidence, charges are yet to be brought up against George Zimmerman. Phone records show that this man prejudged the teen and acted on extremely poor judgement. He disregarded clear direction from the police and followed the teen who he said looked "suspicious". George Zimmerman should be in jail! Zimmerman's freedom might be contributed to the fact that his Dad is a retired judge and out dated "stand your ground" laws are still in full effect.

Trayvon Martin was someone's child, who just went out for an ice tea and skittles. Trayvon never returned home, his life was taken from him because he wore a hoodie and looked suspicious. Trayvon Martin could very well be you or me. Listen to the 911 tapes and judge for yourself. Listen to Trayvon's last cries for help!!!

We the people of America want justice! Let's make some noise!
Stand for something or fall for anything!

10 Bedroom Mood Breakers

In the passion of a love making moment, something could be said or done that can ruin the entire mood. Passionate moments between you and your lover can easily turn frustrating when a few inappropriate things are said or done. Here is a list of 10 bedroom mood breakers that can turn pillow talk into a get up and walk!

Insecurities and Distrust

Your partner gets side tracked by his or her own physical insecurities and wants to ask: "Am I too fat?", "Am I big enough?" or even the infamous "Do you find me attractive?"

"Are you sleeping with someone else?" Partners may also take the time to ask if you are cheating or being unfaithful. Your partner's lack of trust or self confidence can indeed be a turn off in the bedroom.

Rating your Sexual Performance

Sometimes a partner may want to know how they are ranking in the performance area and blurt out things like: "Am I the best you ever had?" or even "Tell me you like it!" Putting pressure on your mate to say things that you want to hear is a huge turn off!! Trust me if you are doing whats right, you will know it.

Bedroom Blurted Blunders

Saying the wrong name, thinking of someone or something else, random and unusual requests and last but not least; trying something totally new can also put an end to a romantic encounter.

This is a small list of sure fire mood breakers that can prevent you and your partner from having a good time. It is important to let the passion flow freely and safely. Your partners sexual preferences or intimate desires should be discovered way before getting to the bedroom.

Have you heard any of these statements in the bedroom?? Or maybe you have something new to add to the list....

Is Chivalry Dead??

The act of Chivalry is usually associated with men; a traditional like behavior of courtesy and respect towards women.

When is the last time someone held the door for you? Or the last time a gentlemen raised up and offered his seat on the train or bus?? As time moves on theses gestures of kindness and respect from men towards women seem to be a dying tradition.

Is Chivalry truly Dead!!

Ladies, imagine if you were on a date and your date did not pull out the chair or hold the door for you...Would this behavior bother you at all??? Well personally, I would be a bit annoyed and turned off. Being a gentlemen shows that you were brought up to have manners and respect for others. A lack of respect or courtesy are sure fire signs of selfishness. Run now or suffer later in the relationship!

Where are all the gentlemen at??!!

Maybe I'm a little Old school...but when I see strong able bodied "men" that refuse to offer their seats to the elderly or disabled... it just gets my blood to boiling!! How could anyone with a concience not get up for a pregnant lady or a disabled person?!

I don't want to male bash in my blog or to seem pessimistic about the topic at hand...But I'm a lady who truly appreciates the courteous behavior of any gentlemen. Courtesy and Respect are human qualites that should never lessen with time. I guess if we (men and women) all paused for a second to think of others, the world would be a kinder place.

Whats you take on this topic??  Is Chivalry really Dead????

Check Out Nicki Minaj's Super Hwot Cover on Vibe Magazine!

Oh my Gosh!! Nicki Minaj is featured on the Feb/March issue of Vibe magazine and I must say she looks "Hwot"!! The photo shoot and interview are a part of a promotional campaign for her new album "Pink Friday: Roman reloaded". Nicki also shares some interesting view points with Vibe about her past and future work.

VIBE: You’ve said before that you didn’t really have fun recording Pink Friday.
Nicki Minaj: I felt like I had something to prove to everyone who said a female rapper could not make an album unless she was talking about her pussy. And so I went above and beyond to prove that I could not talk about sex and not talk about my genitalia and still have a successful album. And I proved that. And now my time for proving things to my critics is over. I don’t really need to prove anything to anyone else anymore.

Is it still hard to get your way as a woman in this industry?
Nicki Minaj: It’s not hard to get your way when it’s your way or the highway. People either follow suit or they’re not around. I don’t really like the sound of that, ‘cause that sounds like a temper tantrum. I’m just very black and white when it comes to my business. There’s really no gray area. I really don’t have a lot of small talk with people I work with. It’s pretty much let’s get the job done. In the beginning, if people didn’t know me they’d probably assume I wasn’t smart or wasn’t business savvy. But once you sit and talk to me, it’s a different story.

You were heavy on the fashion scene last year around Fashion Week with Anna Wintour. Do you feel like you’ve been accepted by the fashion world?
Nicki Minaj:Yeah, I realized more recently that even if it’s for a fashion magazine, I’m not gonna change who I am. When I was doing photo shoots last year, I kept on being told, “This is what we want your hair to look like and this is what we want you to look like,” and it really, really stifled my creativity. So the other day I was talking to a photographer, and he said, “You know what, I like your everyday looks so much better than when you do photo shoots for magazines.” And I was like, “So do I, you’re absolutely right.” I’d been getting more and more frustrated for a while.

Singer/ Actress Whitney Houston Dies at 48

It is sad to report that the Queen of Music, Whitney Houston dies at age 48; details to her death are still unclear. Publicist Kristen Foster said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause of her death is unknown. Houston's lifeless body was discovered in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel by a member of her entourage.

At the young age of 48, Whitney leaves the world with an endless list of music and talent, from studio to cinema. Despite numerous obstacles (no need to mention), Whitney Houston began her career as a top selling artist in the early 80's well into the year 2000. She always stole the show with her impeccable talent and beauty.

Whitney Houston was destined for musical greatness; it was in her genes. She was the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston, the cousin of 1960s pop diva Dionne Warwick and the goddaughter of Aretha Franklin.

My Condolences go out to mother Cissy Houston and Bobbi Kristina for their lost. Whitney Houston's legacy will continue on forever, influencing many up and coming artist. The world will remember her always and forever. A true musical genius... Rest in Peace Whitney Houston.

The New York Giants Super Bowl Victory!

Blue and White are truly the colors of a sweet victory! Like most people I was glued to my set, munching on goodies as watched the Giants win The Super Bowl! And like most people I had to work and could not make it down to see the parade. It is approximated that close to 1 million fans gathered in the Big Apple today to help celebrate the New York Giants' Super Bowl Victory!

Eli  Manning, the super bowl MVP, held the Lombardi trophy high for cheering fans to see. Coach Tom Coughlin, Bloomberg, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other teammates, waved and grinned from the float as a deep roar rose from the crowds. "All things are possible for those who believe,"  Coach Coughlin said. "We always believed."

This is actually the second Super Bowl championship parade for the Giants in four years. They beat the Patriots in the NFL title game in 2008. Bloomberg asked the crowd today: "Are you feeling deja blue all over again?" *Don't quit your day job Bloomberg*

What was your favorite Super Bowl moment???

The Bronx community comes together in numbers to protest the police shooting of Ramarley Graham.

18-year old Ramarley Graham was shot this past Thursday by narcotics cops who claimed the young teen had a gun. Surveillance video show the teen running in fear into his home on 229th street with Police hot on his heels. The Bronx teen was unarmed and shot by police in the presence of his grandmother and 6-year old brother.

To add insult to injury, Graham's Grandmother, Patricia Hartley was later taken into custody and held for 7 hours while being denied access to her heart medication.

500 plus demonstrators attended a rally to call for an end to police brutality.

"We are human beings. Stop treating us like animals," Frank Graham the slain teen's father, told the crowd. "My son did nothing wrong. I want justice for my son, my baby."

I am angered by this story...Ramarley Graham did not have to die! Unfortunately this is one of many stories in where minority men and women are "mistakenly" killed by police because they saw a gun or weapon. These modern day lynching have to stop!!

Let us address the fact that there are a  handful of racist closed minded "cops" that make it bad for the entire Police Force. Many of these officers are just plain scared, walking around with shaky trigger fingers.

An officers job is to protect and serve the community. How can they achieve this, when the bonds of trust are broken?? Shooting an unarmed man is a deplorable act!! Something has to be done!!

What do you think about this madness??? Remember....

Packing On the Holiday Pounds

The Holidays are approaching and its the time of year where most people (like myself) pack on the pounds! Countless family dinners and holiday celebrations are fertile ground for indulgence. Pies, cakes and cookies... tempting pound packers that are oh so easy on the lips and hell hard on the hips. Help!!!

Here are some interesting tips that I have gathered to try to avoid packing on the holiday pounds.

Tips to help avoid the winter weight:
  • Try to remember not to indulge while you are chatting. (A big "No No") You will finish the whole bowl chatting away.
  • Never go to a party hungry
  • Eat slowly and savor every bite. *It takes 20 minutes for the stomach to signal to your brain that you are full.
  • Moderation is the key to weight maintenance. A forkful of cheesecake will do less damage than a whole piece.
I hope these tips were helpful. If you have anymore advice or tips on this post, don't hesitate to leave a comment. Remember people....

Ex- Heavyweight Champ Joe Frazier Dies at 67

Former Heavy weight ex-boxing champion Joe Frazier succumbs to Liver Cancer at the age of 67."Smoking " Joe Frazier, was the first man to defeat Muhammad Ali. He won the undisputed heavyweight title with a 15-round decision over Ali at Madison Square Garden in March 1971, in an extravaganza known as the Fight of the Century. Joe Frazier spent much of his career being taunted and over shadowed by his popular nemesis Muhammad Ali. The long time rivalry between the two fierce competitors entertained the world and transformed the world of boxing.

Frazier spent most of his years in retirement working with kids in his Philadelphia boxing gym, including two of his own who became boxers, son Marvis and daughter Jacqui.

"Regardless of who you are, you have to think one way, and the right way, to be accepted by the man above," Frazier said. "He calls the shots."

Boxing Legend Joe Frazier won 32 fights in all, 27 by knockouts, losing four times — twice to Ali in furious bouts and twice to George Foreman.

Rest In Peace, you will be missed.
